Beijing Municipal Bureau of Public Security has the following major responsibilities:
1. To draft local regulations and safeguard the public security of Beijing.
2. To maintain social stability, domestic security and social order.
3. To prevent, stop and conduct investigation on illegal behaviors and crimes and to tackle social disorders and turbulence. To manage social gatherings, protests, demonstrations and dangerous goods.
4. To maintain transportation safety and order and handle traffic accidents.
5. To manage fire-fighting work and implement fire control procedures.
6. To undertake security work for Chinese Communist Party and state leaders and state guests.
7. To manage residence register, nationality affairs and entrance and exit issues for Beijing residents. To handle residence and travel affairs of foreigners in Beijing.
8. To handle execution of surveillance, arrest and sentence outside prison yet under surveillance. To monitor criminals who are on probation and parole. To manage detention houses, forced drug-relief reformatories and penitentiaries.
9. To safeguard the security of public information networks.
10. To instruct and supervise security work of government organizations, social group, enterprises, key construction projects and security prevention at grassroots level.
11. To supervise penitentiaries and correction camps.
12. To supervise construction of information technology on public security, criminal techniques and operation techniques.
13. To manage public security equipment and funds and to supervise subordinate public security bureaus at district or county level on security work.
14. To supervise and organize training for Beijing's police force. To award police ranks and investigate and offences against law and discipline.
15. To manage and lead police, fire fighting and armed forces.
16. To undertake other relevant assignments from Beijing Municipal Government
