Beijing Municipal Bureau of Justice has the following major responsibilities:
1. To draft local laws and regulations concerning the city's judicial administrative work.
2. To give guidance to the prison and prisoners' management.
3. To participate in the social education of the prisoners' probation, reprieve, medical treatment outside prison and the arrangements for parole.
4. To guide the legal education, popularize the laws and law enforcement.
5. To manage lawyers and notarization.
6. To supervise the management of the legal service, foreign law firms in Beijing and social groups affiliated to the bureau.
7. To guide and manage civil dispute arbitration and legal services in townships.
8. To manage training of a professional legal service staff.
9. To manage arbitration work.
10. To undertake other relevant assignments from Beijing Municipal Government.
