Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Planning has the following major functions:
1. To organize and coordinate amendments and execution of the Beijing General City Plan.
2. To participate and organize the research of key problems in city construction and management.
3. To draft relevant local rules and regulations about city planning.
4. To coordinate and handle related matters concerning design of key projects.
5. To be responsible for the approval of the location and initial design of the major construction projects.
6. To be responsible for the approval of qualification of the project undertakers and their design quality.
7. To compile Beijing's building criteria.
8. To be responsible for liaison work with expert consultancy organization.
9. To undertake other relevant assignments from Beijing Municipal Government.
