Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Heritage has the following major functions:
1. To draft local laws and regulations concerning cultural relic protection.
2. To perfect the cultural relics administration system.
3. To execute or supervise the execution of related laws and regulations.
4. To manage listed buildings and sites of world cultural heritage.
5. To manage the museums and museum exhibits.
6. To guide cultural relic protection work for districts and counties.
7. To designate cultural relic protection areas and construction control areas.
8. To examine and approve cultural relics buildings.
9. To manage cultural relic excavation work.
10. To organize relic survey and excavation work.
11. To manage the relics market, relics business and relics customs control.
12. To handle cultural relics cases; to organize relics exchanges and exhibition programs.
13. To conduct cultural relics research.
14. To undertake other relevant assignments from Beijing Municipal Government.
