Tongzhou district, situated in the southeast of Beijing, is the east gateway to the capital. Its location is epitomized as is said in the saying, “it is the northern headspring of the old Grant Canal and the eastern end of the long Chang'An Avenue”. Tongzhou district is 36.5 kilometers wide from its east to its west and 48 kilometers from its north to its south covering an area of 907 square kilometers，and it accounts for 5.55% of Beijing’s total area, and occupies 14.3% of Beijing’s  whole plain space. It has a population of 870,000, and has 10 towns, 1 village and 4 residential communities.
