Yanqing county now has a population of 274,000. It administers 11 townships and four towns. It covers a total area of 2,000 sq km with the cultivated land of 318 sq km , among which the mountain area occupies 72.8 percent, plain 26.2 percent and water 1 percent respectively. The average elevation of the whole county is about 500 meters. Haituo Mountain, which is 2,241 meters, is the highest mountain in Yanqing and the second in Beijing.

     Yanqing is a kind of continental monsoon climate, transition of the temperate zone and semi-temperate zone. It is semiarid and semi-humid. The annual average temperature and rainfall is 8℃ and 494 mm separately. It is cold in winter and cool in summer. The temperature of the hottest month is even lower 0.8℃ than Chengde, which makes it a famous summer resort enjoying the "Xiadu" prestige.

    Yanqing Basin is surrounded by mountains on three sides with the other side facing a lake-Guanting Lake. It is rich in tourism resources.

    Yanqing is also rich in mineral resources. there are more than thirty mineral spots. The main minerals are gold, silver, copper, iron, zinc, aluminum, potassium and phosphorus. The quantity of limestone and marble is much more larger.

    There are many kinds of wild animals and plants in Yanqing and plenty of rare and precious birds and animal and wild Chinese medicinal materials. The development of various kinds of wild vegetables is on the upgrade.

    The rich water resources are not only beneficial to the development of industrial and agricultural production. They also supply plenty of water to both Guanting Reservoir and Shisanling Reservoir. They play a very important role in support of the construction of the capital. There are two third-grade and sixteen four grade rivers, five medium size reservoirs with the total area of over 3000 hectares, which are beneficial to the fishery production.
